Job Position

Cape Breton Island Tourism Training Network (CBITTN) at Cape Breton University is seeking a part-time Summer Research Assistant for the 2023 season to collect survey information from visitors at tourism destinations across Cape Breton Island.

Position Summary: Research Student - Surveying Visitors

Project Duration & Pay: 6 weeks I 20 hours per week I $21.50 per hour

  • Do you like to travel, have a valid driver’s license, and access to a safe vehicle?

    We are looking for a research student with a passion for Tourism and an interest in economic development on Cape Breton Island to survey visitors to better understand the impact of tourism-related challenges on the visitor experience.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Travel to assigned popular tourism destinations on Cape Breton Island.

  • Engage visitors in conversation and conduct a brief two-minute survey.

  • Respond promptly and professionally to stakeholder or visitor inquiries.

  • Motor travel is required as will flexible hours. Mileage will be reimbursed.

  • The student may work in collaboration with project team members of the CBITTN.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Reports directly to the CBITTN Industry Liaison.

Successful Candidate Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a Post-graduate degree at CBU.

  • Experience within the post-secondary work environment is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information.

  • Ability to adapt to new technology and to learn and work independently.

  • Highly motivated, focused and results-oriented with the ability to meet expectations in a dynamic and customer-centric work environment.

  • The ability to work well with others, both internally and externally, from a wide range of backgrounds.

  • Strong written, interpersonal, and public communication skills.
